Itinerary

The itinerary may vary according to local weather, ice conditions and wildlife viewing opportunities. Efforts will always be made to facilitate the best results of the prevailing conditions. A daily schedule will be posted on board.

Day 1: Departure from Ushuaia city.

Boarding takes place in the afternoon. Passengers will meet the crew and expedition staff during a welcome cocktail. Afterwards they will have time to meet their shipmates. We will sail towards the Western Falkland Islands (Malvinas)

Day 2: At Sea

Due to the 'open bridge' policy on board the USHUAIA, passengers will be able to join the crew on the bridge and have the opportunity to learn about navigation, as well as watch whales and enjoy the scenery. Albatrosses and petrels often accompany the ship. Lecturers and naturalists will prepare the travellers for the visit to the Falkland Islands.

Day 3: Western Falkland Islands (Malvinas)

Depending on the weather conditions, the lecturers and naturalists on board will accompany the passengers on the first excursion, exploring, on the west coast, the following islands: West Point Island and Carcass Island. In the evening, the sailing continues eastwards around the islands to the north of the archipelago, arriving at the capital, Puerto Argentino, in the morning.

Day 4: Eastern Falkland Islands (Malvinas) - At Sea

In the morning we will explore Puerto Argentino and its museum, as well as souvenir shops and pubs. The island is home to extraordinary wildlife: giant petrels, Falkland Steamer Ducks, kittiwakes and Kelp Gulls, witch herons, harriers and peregrine falcons. In the afternoon we will sail to South Georgia Islands.

Days 5 and 6: At Sea

Onboard lectures will be given by the expert naturalists, who will share their knowledge of the wildlife and ecosystems we will encounter along the way. South Georgia is considered to be one of the most wildlife-rich places on the planet.

Day 7: At Sea - South Georgia

We will finally reach South Georgia and its beautiful landscape with high mountains, huge glaciers, fjords and meadows. We will try to visit the following places: Eisehul Bay and Right Whale Bay.

Days 8 to 12: South Georgia

Itinerary will depend on local conditions at sea and on land. Some of the destinations expected to be explored are: Salisbury Plain, Prion Island, Grytviken, Godthul, St Andrews Bay, Cooper Bay, Drygalski Fjord.

Days 13 and 14: At Sea

We will start the crossing of the Scotia Sea towards the Antarctic Peninsula. During the navigation we will be able to enjoy the deck to read, take pictures and edit them or meditate on the experience we are living. There will be lectures and activities.

Day 15: Elephant Island, South Shetland Islands

This enigmatic Elephant Island has one of the most important rescue stories of all time: in 1916 Sir Ernest Shackleton had to leave 22 of his men stranded on this island to embark with five companions on a desperate search for help.

Day 16: At Sea - Antarctic Peninsula: Antarctic Sound

The ship's staff will prepare passengers for the Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands experience. We will arrive in the afternoon and try to disembark at one of the following places: Argentine Antarctic Station Esperanza, Brown Bluff.

Days 17 to 19: Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands

Once in the Antarctic Sound area, we hope to explore the following sites: Gerlache Strait, Hydrurga Rocks, Cuverville Island, Deception Island, Half Moon Island.

Days 20 and 21: At Sea

Leaving the Antarctic Peninsula behind, we will return north towards the Drake Passage crossing. During the navigation, passengers and staff will identify seabirds and whales. Final lectures on the voyage will take place.

Day 22: Ushuaia

We will arrive early in the morning at the Port of Ushuaia, disembarking after breakfast.
